About SIMA Asphalt
SIMA Asphalt has quickly established itself as one of the leading asphalt additive suppliers in the UK. Sima was formed by industry experts with over 20 years experience of asphalt production in the UK. Our manufacturing and research base employs specialists with over 50 years of scientific and practical experience in the field of surfactants and their production. Our aim is to introduce innovative products for the asphalt industry with considerable cost advantage compared to our competitors.
SIMA Asphalt also supplies dosing systems for chemical and fibre additives. Our engineering experience is second to none and our products are installed on some of the UK’s largest batch and drum mix asphalt plants.
Meet the Team
- Mark Hewstone is the managing director of SIMA Asphalt. Mark has over 30 years of experience within the asphalt industry, both in the UK and abroad. He started his career with Redland Aggregates (now Tarmac) and then moved to RMC Roadstone. Mark’s roles within these companies encompassed technical, production and commercial.
- In 2004 Mark moved abroad and started working as a consultant in the asphalt industry, working closely with emerging technologies such as warm mix asphalt and PMA (Polymer modified asphalt).
- Mark returned to the UK in 2016 and started SIMA Asphalt with a goal to change the way we manufacture asphalt in the UK with a focus on sustainability. By incorporating best practises from his time abroad, he has managed to help his clients increase their usage of recycled asphalt, reduce energy consumption and improve quality.
- Mark is a member of the Institute of Asphalt Technology (MIAT).
- Alexander graduated from Heriot-Watt University in 2021 with a Master’s in Mechanical and Energy Engineering. Alexander joined SIMA Asphalt in September 2022 as an Engineering Manager and has completed a University Diploma in Asphalt and Pavement Studies at the University of Derby. In 2023, Alexander received the Best Diploma Student award from the IAT in recognition of his academic achievement. Prior to joining SIMA Asphalt, Alexander worked for a consultancy specialising in renewable energy and sustainable development.

- His main goal for the future is to help further develop SIMA Asphalt as a sustainable and innovative company, using the skills acquired through University and his previous job. Alexander also speaks 4 languages, helping further consolidate SIMA Asphalt’s international presence.
